Questions about this service

Can we live in the house while the renovation takes place?

For extensive renovations involving joist work or multi-room plastering, we recommend vacating or zoning off rooms phase by phase.

How do you handle unexpected rot or old pipework uncovered during strip-out?

We pause that section, show you the exposed timber directly, explain your repair options, and agree any price adjustment before proceeding.

Do you make custom mouldings to match our original plaster or wood?

Yes. We take timber cross-sections of original Victorian or Edwardian skirtings and run matching profiles through our workshop spindle moulder.

Our Workmanship Commitment

Every timber joint, door hang, and structural fixing is built to British building standards and agreed joinery specifications. If a door binds, a drawer sticks, or a joint moves within twelve months of completion, we return to ease and correct it without charge. Pricing & payment

How We Carry Out Your Project

  1. 1

    Strip out and timber appraisal

We clear damaged plaster, inspect structural joists for damp or beetle damage, and sister new treated timber where required.

  2. 2

    First fix carpentry and insulation

We build internal partition walls, frame pipe boxing, level floors with furring strips, and insert acoustic insulation batts.

  3. 3

    Drylining and plaster bonding

We fix plasterboard with staggered joints, tape edges, and apply plaster skim coats to true, flat planes.

  4. 4

    Second fix joinery and ironmongery

We fit tall timber skirtings, mitre door architraves, hang solid four-panel doors, and install mortice latches.

Why Work With Camber & Mortar

Joined-up trade management

Because we run the site timberwork ourselves, second fix elements like architraves and skirtings line up cleanly without gaps.

Straight walls and plumb door openings

We shim and straighten studs before boarding, meaning your doors close with a satisfying click and cabinets sit flat.

Sensible, honest pace of work

We set a clear sequence of work and keep your site clean and organised from the initial strip-out to final timber oiling.

Words from Local Homeowners

★★★★★
The lime plaster in our dining room feels silky to the touch and has kept the damp air away entirely. Their carpenters scribed the oak bookcases directly to our leaning Victorian walls with pinpoint accuracy.
Alistair B., Richmond, London, GB
★★★★★
Julian and his crew arrived at eight every morning without fail. They isolated the kitchen dust completely, and we settled the milestones via bank transfer only when each section passed inspection.
Helena W., St Albans, GB
★★★★☆
Solid timber flooring laid across the ground floor with zero squeaks even after seasonal temperature shifts. Any minor snagging note was corrected within three days of our walk-through.
Marcus T., Dulwich, London, GB
