Why Work With Camber & Mortar
Stops draughts without changing windows
Our routed brush strips seal perimeter air leaks while keeping original historic timber and glass intact.
Accoya splices that resist decay
We repair rotten lower sections using acetylated timber that does not shrink, swell, or rot in damp British weather.
Smooth, rattle-free movement
Correctly balanced counterweights mean you can slide top and bottom sashes without rattling in strong wind.
Our Workmanship Commitment
Every timber joint, door hang, and structural fixing is built to British building standards and agreed joinery specifications. If a door binds, a drawer sticks, or a joint moves within twelve months of completion, we return to ease and correct it without charge. Pricing & payment
Questions about this service
Can you install slimline double glazing into my original sashes?
If your sash stiles have sufficient depth, we can rout deeper rebates to seat slimline heritage double-glazed units and rebalance the weights.
Will draught-proofing make the windows hard to paint later?
No. The brush seals sit inside machined carrier slots that pop out easily before painting and clip back in once dry.
Do you need scaffolding for upper-floor windows?
Most sash repair work is completed safely from inside your rooms by pulling the sashes inwards into the living space.
How We Carry Out Your Project
-
1
Dismantling and sash release
We remove the staff beads, carefully pull the top and bottom sashes, and inspect the counterweight pockets inside the frame.
-
2
Timber surgery and splicing
We rake out any soft timber, treat exposed pockets with fungicide, and scarf in stable accoya blocks matched to the original profile.
-
3
Routing seals and re-cording
We machine channels for weatherstripping along parting beads and parting slips, then hang the sashes with fresh waxed cords.
-
4
Balancing and final waxing
We trim or add lead weights so each sash stays put at any height, wax the timber running tracks, and pin new beads in place.
Words from Local Homeowners
The lime plaster in our dining room feels silky to the touch and has kept the damp air away entirely. Their carpenters scribed the oak bookcases directly to our leaning Victorian walls with pinpoint accuracy.
Alistair B., Richmond, London, GBJulian and his crew arrived at eight every morning without fail. They isolated the kitchen dust completely, and we settled the milestones via bank transfer only when each section passed inspection.
Helena W., St Albans, GBSolid timber flooring laid across the ground floor with zero squeaks even after seasonal temperature shifts. Any minor snagging note was corrected within three days of our walk-through.
